Concordia Dual Tournament:

The Minneapolis Lions wrestling team improved their dual record to 12 – 4 over the weekend by winning 3 duals at the Concordia Dual Tournament. The grapplers started off the tournament with a hard fought dual win by holding on to a 35 33 victory over the fighting Irish of Chapman. It was a very exciting dual with extremely close matches all the way through. Andy Griffith clinched the win with a major decision in the 189 Lb weight class.

The dual was Minneapolis’s 10th straight victory of the season improving their record to 10 – 0 before tangling with 5a Valley Center in the second dual of the night. Valley Center handed the Lions their first defeat of the season. “They were a very talented team with a lot of mat time stated coach Giles” Minneapolis’s Dusty Greer Junior 125Lbs and Jacob Klein 171 Lbs both won matches during the dual.

The third dual of the night was another Minneapolis victory defeating Sabetha 48 – 30. “We took control of the middle weights and put too many points up for the Blue Jays to catch us at the end of the dual.

On Saturday Minneapolis recorded another win by defeating 4a Eudora 46 – 27. The team wrestled extremely well in this dual pulling what some might consider an upset over a bigger school.

We wrestled extremely hard all weekend winning 37 individual matches and 3 duals. “ We were a little short handed during the tournament due to injuries and sickness. Senior Cody Eaton 145 Lbs is out with an injury, our 189 Lb starter Andy Griffith only got to wrestle once due to an injury he suffered last weekend and our 160 lb starter did not get to wrestle because of sickness. Ty Hamm 145 Lb freshman stepped in and did a fantastic job winning 3 matches at 145lbs, Austin Crosson 160 Lb junior recorded a win, and Drew Smith filled in and did a nice job for Andy Griffith at 189 Lbs.

There were 3 wrestlers who won 5 matches over the weekend 119 Lb So John Corman 125 Lb Jr. Dusty Greer 135 Lb Freshman Zac Eaton. To win 5 matches at this tournament is an incredible job.
