Minneapolis wrestlers showed up for an entire days worth of wrestling at their home tournament this last weekend. However, they were dissapointed when they learned that because of the snow storm that was moving through only two of the original 12 teams would be showing up. Nonetheless the Lions showed tremendous focus and added two dual victories against St. Johns Military and a quality Chapman team. Minneapolis 55 - Chapman 21 The first dual began with Nathan Reed receiving a forfeit at 103 Lbs. At 112 Lbs Brody Laflin fought hard but was pinned in the first period leaving the team scored tied at 6. Sophomore John Corman took the mat and pinned his opponent with :55 seconds left in the 2nd period.125 Lb Dusty Greer won a hard fought match 5 - 2 though athletisism and constant agression on his experienced opponent. After that Senior Tyler Hamilton took the mat and showed complete domination of his opponent winning 10 - 1 at 130 Lbs. Zac Eaton also increased the Lions lead when he pinned his opponent with :49 seconds left in the 1st period. At this point the Lions led 25 - 6. At 140 Lbs Anthony Brannum took an open giving the Lions 6 more points. Only :45 seconds into the next match, 145 Lb Senior Cody Eaton again had his opponent wrapped in a cradle and pinned giving the Lions a 37 - 6 lead. Alberto Contreras then took the mat for a tough match with a scoreless first period. However, Alberto came up a little bit short when the final buzzer rang as he was down 4-6 in a well fought match. Nicholas Torres then took an Open at 160 Lbs making the score 43 - 9 with the Lions in the lead. At 171 Lbs Jacob Klein put up a good fight but was caught on his back with :55 seconds left to give Chapman only their 3rd win of the day. At 189 Lbs and 215 Lbs Andy Griffith and Josh Mullen both received forfeits increasing the Lions lead to 40 points with the score being 55 - 15. To end the dual at heavy weight, Freshman Jacob Snider took the mat with enthusiasm but was pinned with :25 seconds left in the 1st period. The final score Minneapolis 55 - Chapman 21. Minneapolis 72 - St. Johns Military 12 Minneapolis also wrestled well in their 2nd dual of the day when they faced St. Johns Military school for the second time in 3 days. At 103 Lbs Nathan Reed pinned his opponent with :54 seconds left in the 1st period. After that Brody Laflin 112 Lbs, John Corman 119 Lbs, and Dusty Greer 125 Lbs all took forfeits giving the Lions a 24 - 0 lead. Tyler Hamilton took a 5 - 0 lead before pinning his opponent with :27 seconds left in the 2nd period. After that, Zac Eaton, Anthony Brannum, and Cody Eaton all took Opens to put the Lions up 48 - 0. At 152 Lbs Alberto Contreras took the mat and pinned his kid with 1:28 left in the 1st period. Nic Torres also wrestled extremely well pinning his opponent with 1:20 seconds left in the 3rd period. At 171 Lbs Jacob Klein took an open to put the Lions up 66 - 0. Andy Griffith then took the mat where he pinned his opponent :7 seconds into the 2nd period. Josh Mullen wrestled an exciting match at 215 Lbs but was caught on his back with 1:36 left in the 3rd period giving up our first loss of the dual. At heavyweight Jacob Snider fought hard but was pinned in the first period making the final score of the dual 72 - 12 Minneapolis. Exhibition matches include Kyler Moody at 152 Lbs and Austin Crosson at 160 Lbs. Both wrestlers pinned their opponents in the 1st period. Coach Giles said, "It was unfortunate that we didn't get to wrestle the entire tournament, however we did a great job and added 2 wins to our dual record."
