On Saturday Feb 2nd the wrestling squad traveled to Philipsburg to compete in the traditionally tough Panther Classic. The 15 team tournament is known as one of the toughest 1 day wrestling tournament in Kansas.
By the end of the day Minneapolis had 3 place winners.
John Corman 119 Lbs So took 2nd place. John had a great tournament he was narrowly defeated in the finals by a Norton wrestler for first. John defeated an opponent with a 24 – 3 record from Lakin Kansas to reach the finals Saturday Night.
Dusty Greer 125 Lbs Jr. Defeated Chris Orr from Hill City in the match to place 3rd in the tournament. Orr is currently ranked 6th in the state by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association.
Alberto Contreras 152 Lbs Sr. Placed 4th defeating a ranked opponent in the 1st round of the tournament 15 – 4. Alberto had to default his 3rd place match due to a nagging elbow injury.
Other wrestlers winning matches in the tournament were 130 Lb Sr. Tyler Hamilton, 135 Lb Fr Zac Eaton, 140 Lb So. Adam Klein 160 Lb So. Austin Crosson 171 Lb Jr. Jacob Klein
The Team placed 7th in the 15 team tournament with 48pts.
