Alberto finished fifth in the state wrestling championships which were held at Gross Memorial Coliseum on Friday and Saturday Feb 22nd and 23rd,
Alberto began the tournament with a 12 – 5 decision over Sr. Michael Frey of Wichita Independent. Frey was 34 – 4 and finished 1st at 152Lbs in the Eureka regional tournament. Contreras came out wrestling with his aggressive style, which secured him 5 takedowns in the first match. In the championship quarterfinals Alberto scored 3 more takedowns, two reversals and an escape to win 10 – 5 over So. Colton Gentry of Rossville. The win locked up no less than a sixth place finish for the Minneapolis wrestler.
Alberto faced eventual state champion Blake Mays from Beloit High School in the championship semifinals on Friday night. Contreras came up short in a hard fought match by a score of 4 – 2. On Saturday afternoon Alberto wrestled Sr. Jordan Meyer from Sabetha. Meyer held the #1 state ranking all season. Meyer defeated Contreras by one point on a stalling call that was given with 18 Seconds left in the match.
In the match for 5th place Alberto faced Colton Gentry again. Gentry had wrestled his way back through the consolation bracket to face Contreras again. This match was a fight to the finish with Gentry taking an early lead and Contreras fighting back to tie the match at the end of regulation and then escaping and taking down Gentry in the second overtime. Alberto rode Gentry out in the third overtime period to come up with the victory.
“Alberto did an extremely good job all year and peeked at the right time. His wrestling at state was some of the best wrestling by any wrestler in the tournament, he can really wow the crowd with his athleticisms and skills. Alberto is also a fighter he is never beat when you combine that with his ability to hit about 3 different techniques in 5 seconds it really makes for exciting wreslting.

Dusty Greer also competed extremely well at the state championships on Friday and Saturday. Dusty began the tournament losing a hard fought decision to eventual 3rd place finisher from Norton High School Kaenon Keiswetter. Dusty really picked up the pace on Friday night against Cody Wildin of Marion. Dusty was behind early in the match but fought back to send the match into the first overtime where Dusty narrowly missed a takedown which would of won him the match.
Dusty did an extremely good job all season finishing the year with 20 wins and some great state experience to bring back to the season next year.
